There are three categories of membership

Individual Membership
Who can join?
This comprises of individuals across and outside Africa who share the aspirations of APCA and desire to engage, promote, train or advocate for palliative care. Individual members are allowed to contribute to discussions and the decision making processes in the association. They have full voting rights’ for the selection of APCA board members.
Different cadres of health workers ranging from nurses, generalists and specialist doctors, pharmacists, chaplains and the religious, physiotherapists, psychologists, social workers, occupational therapists and radiotherapy physicists, Community-based and Home-based care. Researchers who are at the forefront of multidisciplinary innovations in palliative care service delivery and education, academicians and educators, policy makers including ministers, members of parliament and government officials who oversee policy formulation and implementation in health and palliative care, social enterprises to study and understand how their areas of focus fit into the palliative care agenda, patients, carers, people interested in learning, creating awareness and advocating for palliative care, survivors of cancer, HIV and other serious illnesses and their families.
The general public interested in palliative care and health may aspire for key positions within the association.

Your application form will be reviewed by APCA’s operational staff who will make recommendations to the Executive Director for approval of membership. Organization Membership
Who can join?
This category includes National, Regional and International organizations, associations, individual hospice and palliative care organizations plus any other entity that support or engage in Palliative care work and are committed to the development of palliative care.
Members in this category have full voting rights for the selection of APCA board members. The category also allows members to contribute to discussions and engage in the decision making process within the association.

- Voting rights for the selection of APCA’s Board of Governors, which takes place at the APCA conference every three years.
- Eligibility to apply for bursaries to the APCA conference.

- The APCA member’s newsletter.
- Access to relevant palliative care journal articles.
- APCA will make recommendations of registered organizations to its partners in the North
- APCA will give special rates to fully registered members for technical assistance
- support for publications materials and tools to fully registered members
- APCA will put into consideration joint grants for its fully registered member organizations
- E-certificate of membership
- Joint research opportunities
- Linkages to African partners and health systems
- Opportunity to showcase organization’s activities and events at an international level through APCA’s newsletter.
- Use of the APCA logo to endorse certain APCA activities upon request.
NB: When an organisation joins APCA, all its staff automatically become members and are eligible to apply for bursaries; however there is only one board vote per organisation. If other staff would like to vote themselves, they must become individual members. If you join as an organisation, please ask individual staff to fill in the application form, and to notify us if they're leaving your organisation so we can keep our records updated.
